0000-0001-8839-5438Félix Elortza obtained his BSc in Biology and a MSc in Biochemistry from the University of Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and continued his scientific pursuits by completing his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the same institution.
In 2001, Dr. Elortza joined the mass spectrometry laboratory of Prof. Peter Roepstorff at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), to conduct post-doctoral research on proteomics of post-translationally modified proteins. This research was supervised by Dr. Ole N. Jensen.
In 2004, Dr. Elortza joined CIC bioGUNE as the Proteomics Platform Manager. This laboratory was founder and active partner of the Spanish Proteomics Core Facilities Network (ProteoRed, 2005-2020) and is member of CIBERehd platforms.
The unit fosters the development and settling of new proteomic technologies and methodologies with the aim to apply this knowledge on basic and oriented biomedical research. Over these years, various methods for protein analysis have been implemented, including MALDI-TOF analysis for peptide characterization and tissue MALDI Imaging, as well as nano-scale liquid chromatography online coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (nLC MS/MS) for post-translational modification and label-free quantification analyses.

Among the founder members of the Spanish Proteomics Society (2004) and has recently been elected as President of SEProt (2024-2028). Postdoctoral Basque Government grant (2001).
